# Make Your Mac Slightly Usable ── The Sins of Apple
## Sin 1: Disgusting and anti-human window management ¶
-
Normal peope:
- There are a lot of windows, and I switch between those windows!
-
Apple fans:
-
Oh wait, my focus is in a hidden window! I have to switch back to the window I want!
── Then typed Command+Tab
-
What?! Another active window, that’s not what I the wanted! Never mind, just open the stage manager so I can see all my active windows!
── Then typed Command+W
-
Yeah I am pretty sure and confident I found the one!
── Then clicked one of window of an application, there’re 3 of them
-
NO WAY!? It’s not the right one! Open the stage manager again!
── Then typed Command+W AGAIN
-
Wait, the window arrangement is not the same as the last time I opened it! And where is my current window?
── Looks a little confused but close the stage manager
-
Just try switching to another window to see!
── Typed Ctrl-Tab to switch to another window of the same application, that he/she might not even know which one
-
Oh, I’m in the right window! Mac is so magic, so damn cool!
-
Solution:
- You have a lot of money enough to acquire Apple and become the boss, ask the product team to fix it once for all.
- You study or work hard, get into Apple and work in the desktop team (I don’t know if there’s one), convince your supervisor, your super-supervisor, and finally Tim Cook, and change this alien logic completely.
## Sin 2: There is NO usable file explorer ¶
I believe Finder is the classic example of how product team completely mess up things.
They force their users to accept those disgusting presets and concepts, and it’s more annoying that even the basic functionalities for a file explorer are not accessible!
Solution: The same as sin 1.
## Sin 3: There is NO proper terminal application ¶
Solution:
-
Use the opensource terminal emulator ITerm2.
Everyone use ITerm2, nobody use the builtin Terminal.
-
The same as sin 1.
## Sin 4: There is EVEN NO system clipboard application ¶
You cannot access clipboard history!
Solution:
- There is an opensource clipboard app called Clippy.
- The same as sin 1.
## Sin 5: Apple reinvents Copy/Cut/Paste ¶
It’s always a copy, until you decide to paste ──
- cut paste OR
- copy paste
(WTF)
Solution: The same as sin 1.
## Sin 6: Files can be OVERLAPED "beautifully" on the desktop ¶
The product team should eat a bullet for this, I mean everyone.
Solution: The same as sin 1.
## Sin 7: Preview cannot zoom in/out using mouse wheel ¶
There is a reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/qy4vdn/using_option_mouse_wheel_to_zoom_inout_in_preview
Solution: The same as sin 1.
## Sin 8: You cannot have custom application launch shortcut ¶
Solution:
- There is an opensource application launcher app called Thor.
- The same as sin 1.
Almost forgot, but WE DO HAVE ──
One more thing sin...
## Apple reinvents everything, even the keyboard 😅😅😅 ¶
For those normal people who don’t use Apple’s device:
- Meta is called "Command" "invented" by Apple.
- Alt is called "Option" also "invented" by Apple.
Apple fans:
- Oh, your computer does not have a Command key? We don’t have Meta key (long tail sound), and we don’t use Ctrl key, we use Command key! (excited)
- BTW, I usually close my mac using the shortcut Control+Option+Command+Esc, and I often hope that human can have more than 5 fingers each hand! So that I can finally close my mac more comfortably! I’m not saying it’s not good, instead it’s like playing a piano! (enjoy face)
If I find more "things" that might be "sins", I will update this "APPLE SIN EVENT" 😅😅😅.
Hope you enjoy and until next time!
